Anna Gelzer, Dr. med. vet., PhD, Diplomate ACVIM (cardiology), Diplomate ECVIM-CA (cardiology)

Dr. Anna Gelzer Dr. Anna R.M. Gelzer is a Cardiologist that has been with Monroe Veterinary Associates since the summer of 2009. She has been a practicing veterinarian since 1992.

In 1986, Dr. Gelzer attended the University of Basel in Basel, Switzerland, where she began both her graduate and undergraduate veterinary studies. In Switzerland, undergraduate and graduate education in veterinary medicine are combined. In 1987, Dr. Gelzer then transferred to the University of Berne in Berne, Switzerland, where she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1992.

Three years after receiving her DMV, Dr. Gelzer entered the Small Animal Medicine and Surgery internship program at the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine in Athens, Georgia. She completed her internship in 1995 and subsequently entered into the three-year residency program in Veterinary Cardiology at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University.

In 2000, Dr. Gelzer began the transition from student to teacher with an assistant professorship in Cardiology at the University of Pennsylvania’s Veterinary Hospital Department of Clinical Studies. In 2001, she transferred to the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Clinical Sciences at Cornell University where she served as a lecturer in Cardiology. In 2005, she became an Assistant Professor at Cornell.

Dr. Gelzer received board certification from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology, 1999) and the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Companion Animal (Cardiology, 1998). Beyond these and many other professional credentials and affiliations, Dr. Gelzer has also been widely published in numerous veterinary journals and related publications.

Dr. Gelzer’s love of animals extends to her home where she and her two young daughters take care of their 3-year-old black Labrador named Ella and 5-year-old Fox Terrier named Luna. She also enjoys competing in triathlons and horseback riding.
